L'Assiette au Beurre, translating to The Butter Plate, was an illustrated French weekly satirical magazine often featuring content on anarchist and socialist ideas. The magazine was produced between 1901 and 1912. Each issue comprised mainly of two to three-color-inked cartoons and caricatures, given full- or sometimes double-page placement, with each installment containing a minimum of sixteen illustrated pages. Images were published from original drawings using the zincography printing process. Having published nearly 10,000 drawings produced by more than 200 artists and designers, it constitutes a valuable iconographic testimony to the Belle Époque movement.
